Fund Our Future
“They say that money makes the world go round, but money is making the world go backwards,” Teresa Anderson, Global Climate Justice Lead (The Guardian)
Every day, the climate crisis worsens. Heat records are being broken, farmers are watching their crops fail, and families are trying to survive a planet pushed to its limits.
Behind this crisis is a financial system that funds the industries causing the climate breakdown
Here’s the deal: The financial institutions we are trusting with our salaries, savings, investments and pension funds are using our money to finance fossil fuel and industrial agriculture companies, these industries contribute to climate change and put pressure on the land, water, food systems and livelihoods that communities depend on.
The money is there. It’s just funding the wrong future, and we can’t let it continue!
Our future is being stolen, and we refuse to stay silent
SIGN THE PETITION
Between 2016 and 2022, banks put US$3.2 trillion into fossil fuels and US$370 billion into harmful industrial agriculture in the Global South. Governments added more than US$1.5 trillion a year in subsidies to the companies causing the damage.
That money could be used to help communities build renewable energy, strengthen food systems, and adapt to climate change.
Instead, we pay the highest price with a harvest that fails, a river polluted by extraction, a family home flooded, and a food bill that keeps climbing.
What can we do?
Together we can demand action from financial institutions, governments and policymakers! Begin by signing the manifesto and joining the movement calling for:
- Banks, governments and investors: stop funding fossil fuels and destructive agribusiness
No more money for industries destroying our climate, land, water, and lives. - Governments: redirect finance to real climate solutions
Invest in agroecology, public services, community resilience and renewable energy. - Respect the rights of communities
Guarantee land rights, free prior and informed consent, and promote gender justice. - Ensure transparency and accountability. Banks should come clean about how they use our money, stop harmful investments, and stick to rules that protect our future.
It’s time to Fund Our Future, not the climate crisis

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is ActionAid’s Fund Our Future Campaign?
- Fund Our Future is a climate campaign calling on investors pouring money into fossil fuels and industrial agriculture in the Global South to divest from these harmful activities. We also call on governments to use public money to #FundOurFuture by investing in renewable energy and agroecological solutions that promote food security and social justice.
Why is ActionAid focusing on banks?
- The fossil fuel industry and industrial agriculture are the biggest contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions, which fuel the climate crisis. Banks are providing finance to industrial agriculture and fossil fuel companies for expansion, thereby accelerating the climate crisis. Alongside shifting away from destructive agricultural practices, phasing out fossil fuels and transitioning to clean energy, is essential to meeting the Paris Agreement goal of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees.
What is the alternative to fossil fuels?
- To reach 100% renewable energy globally, we demand a Just Transition that won’t harm communities and will protect them from land grabs or unsafe working conditions. To ensure the shift to greener pathways avoids harming communities, the four key principles of just transitions must be followed:
- They must address and not increase inequality,
- They must transform systems to work for people, nature and the climate,
- They must ensure inclusiveness and participation; and
- They must develop comprehensive frameworks to support communities to make those shifts.
- We must end financing for fossil fuels now to comply with the Paris Agreement and limit global warming to +1.5 °C.
What is the alternative to industrial farming?
- Smallholder farmers play a vital role in feeding communities around the world, and their voices must be heard. One sustainable alternative is agroecology, farming with nature, growing food, caring for land, and building resilience to climate change. A powerful and innovative way to help restore soils, protect biodiversity, strengthen food security and support farmers’ livelihoods. It is all about building food systems that work for people and planet.
What difference does signing make?
- Adding your voice builds the pressure that shifts institutions. Numbers are what make demands impossible to ignore.
