Myanmar earthquake: ActionAid launches Emergency Appeal
ActionAid has launched an emergency appeal following a devastating earthquake that struck central Myanmar, leaving over 1,000 people dead and thousands without homes and in urgent need of food, water and shelter.
The earthquake has impacted millions, with an estimated 3.14 million people living within 50 km of the epicentre and 1.3 million exposed to severe shaking. People residing within 20 km of the epicentre - approximately 560,000 people—face the highest risk of displacement, injury, and loss of life.
ActionAid’s partners in Myanmar have identified Mandalay and Sagaing as areas in urgent need of support, where communities have been hard-hit, and immediate help is critical.
We have activated our emergency funds, and our local partners are organising our response in some of the worst-hit areas, including Mandalay and Sagaing.
In a country already facing a severe humanitarian crisis, with millions displaced by conflict and instability, the scale of this tragedy is unprecedented.
