ActionAid responds to political crisis in Myanmar
As the political crisis in Myanmar escalates, ActionAid raises concerns about the impact of the military takeover on the country’s most vulnerable communities.
The social justice and humanitarian organisation is reviewing its programmes in Myanmar and has been forced to delay some of its activities due to security measures to ensure staff safety.
Julia Sánchez, Secretary General of ActionAid International, says:
“ActionAid is deeply concerned about the impact this major political disruption will have on Myanmar’s most vulnerable communities. We have supported national civil society organisations and grassroots movements in Myanmar for more than a decade, providing humanitarian relief, increasing participation in democratic processes, and tackling gender-based violence.
“ActionAid will continue to stand with the most vulnerable groups and support the women and young people of Myanmar in these unsettling times.”
