ActionAid responds to horrifying levels of violence against civilians in Myanmar
Violence against peaceful protesters in Myanmar is intensifying. During demonstrations last weekend, at least 169 people were killed – including 14 children – with the number of deaths expected to rise.
Julia Sánchez, Secretary General of ActionAid International, says:
“We’re shocked and horrified by the increasing violence being used against peaceful protesters, including small children, in Myanmar.
“ActionAid is calling for an end to the violence and for the right to peaceful assembly to be protected.
“We stand in solidarity with the people of Myanmar. We are determined to continue supporting civil society organisations and grassroot movements to work with the most vulnerable and marginalised communities.”
Ends.
