Reaction to the release of the Energy Transition Accelerator Framework

Today at the US Center at COP 28, an event with U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate Change John Kerry, featured the release of the Energy Transition Accelerator Framework. Kelly Stone, Senior Policy Analyst with ActionAid USA, had this to say:

“It has been a year since Secretary Kerry first announced the Energy Transition Accelerator, but carbon markets are still not climate finance. As long as companies are buying an offset to enable continued pollution, this isn’t real climate action, no matter the rhetoric surrounding the announcement.”

“To meet the Paris Agreement goal of limiting warming to 1.5°C, a fast, full, and funded fossil fuel phase-out is a necessity. This initiative won’t get us there, it is merely more greenwashing.”

“The time for dangerous distractions is over; the world needs real climate action, and the US needs to do its fair share, not duck responsibility.”

Kelly is at COP28 and is available for media interviews.
