ActionAid Kenya condemns fake news about Covid-19 response

An example of the fake information being shared on social media

ActionAid has discovered that a group is masquerading as ActionAid Kenya in order to mislead people in an apparent online scam. Makena Mwobobia, country director of ActionAid Kenya, says:

“ActionAid International Kenya is appalled by the fake news circulating on social media which incorrectly claims we are providing loans through the Ministry of Agriculture. This is a fake account, pretending to be the CS Hon Peter Munya, which is unfortunately promoting lies. ActionAid is concerned that members of the public do not fall for this scam, and check sponsored posts claiming to be connected with the Minister of Agriculture. We urge the public to be vigilant. ActionAid is responding to the COVID-19 pandemic through our partners and women’s networks. Read more about our response here.”
